This time last year we were on a tight schedule due to the appalling weather. But the concrete base was laid on the 29 th January 2007 and our Flat Pack Hall arrived on the 1 st February. Looking back it's hard to remember the rain soaked sodden mud that was here and all the problems and challenges we've solved and overcome in just a year.
We've come along from being a concrete base in the mud. Well done all of us, the village for vital encouragement, support, money and faith that we could do it, and to our excellent committee which has worked together so well. Our team has complimentary strengths, we each bring our own expertise to different areas and encourage and help each other when in difficulties.
The project came in just under budget and on time, all loan money was paid back by the end of May last year and we have now had the final bill from the builder. The heat pump appears to be working well (only Mick really understands it) but we are still not entirely happy with all of it and looking to get more advice from Ice Energy who installed it. It's costing us approximately £15.50 pw but we do have a constantly warm building .
We have bought our own tables, chairs and china etc and are now reasonably well equipped.
On Friday 27 th July we held a wine and cheese evening to celebrate the completion of the village hall.
We had a successful launch day on July 28 th . Lord & Lady Bolton opened the village hall. It was followed by our annual fancy dress competition, which was also judged by Lord & Lady Bolton. The weather was very good to us and had our sports event, which was followed by the celebration tea. To finish the day off we had a children's disco and a get together.
The hall has been used over 50 times from funeral teas, meetings, parties, flower arranging, beetle drives etc to a wonderful Christmas party and Santa's grotto.
We have started a regular lunch club on the 4 th Saturday of the month. Coffee mornings on the 2 nd Tuesday of the month.
We are working on getting wireless connections and laptops so we can run it courses and a local history group. Pat Ryder and Tanya Davies are very keen to get a monthly local history meeting going. If interested phone Pat 622333 or Tanya 623594.
We'd like more day/evening classes to run if anyone can offer their services or see if any tutors out there want to use our space. Our reasonable rates are £5 per hour for village people and £8 per hour for others. David Sterling is now our booking clerk phone 622374. The hall is for all of us to use and enjoy.
We have planted more trees around the edge of the field and the children's gardening club have planted bulbs and perennials including lavender and rosemary in two new plots. It's good to see we still have snowdrops.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact any of the committee.
